Promoting use of concentrated liquid detergents in water soluble films: To create awareness on this topic IHPCIA had organised a one-day seminar on 'Concentrated laundry detergents in water soluble film for home care' in Mumbai on November 30, 2018. Click here for details
Voluntary Plastic Waste Reduction: The magnitude of the plastics problem can be gauged from the fact that India consumes about 15-kt (kilotonnes) of detergent powder every day and in the process uses 15-mn plastic bags of varying sizes. The IHPCIA is aims to reduce use of plastics at the rate of 10% per year, to reach an overall 40% reduction of plastics use by 2022.
Safe use of enzymes: The Regulatory and Standards Committee of IHPCIA has come out with guidelines for the safe handling of enzymes in the Home Care Industry, especially for the manufacturers of laundry detergents. Details can be found here
Sustainable cleaning with reduced water and low energy use: A large portion of the industry is making a positive movementtowards embracing sustainability practices voluntarily and putting in efforts to reduce the carbon footprint, to develop formulations with lower water use, to encourage cold water wash to save energy and to reduce plastics use for packing to meet the environmental challenges.
Cleaning For A Purpose: Cleaning for A Purpose" is an IHPCIA led initiative for education the school children in rural arears to have good cleaning habits and hygiene. Our members generously provide hygiene packets consisting of soap, shampoo and other cleaning products that are then distributed amongst targeted rural schools
Clean Right-Clean Bright: The "Clean Right - Clean Bright" initiative is to increase consumer awareness about laundry habits and to use sustainable home care products in concentrated forms which avoid the use of minerals, require less water, save energy and also help reduce the use of plastics.

The IHPCIA Working Committee is also addressing and currently working on the effects of Multilayer Packaging & Use of Plastics, Ban on Single Use Plastic, Labelling Requirements, Risk based chemical safety assessments and Inverted and protective duties and tariffs
